I first learned and began practicing yoga while I was at university. Since then I’ve always come back to yoga as a way to relax, feel better in my body and reconnect with myself.
After having my first child I began practicing yoga more than ever. With a small person in my life, I found a lot of things I needed on my mat – some time for myself, a way to relax, a way to exercise and a way to restore a bit of my pre-baby brain.
I trained as a yoga teacher with the amazing Amanda Edlin. I loved everything about training to become a yoga teacher – and have never learned so much. My training is a 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) course, accredited by Yoga Alliance.
I now practice and teach a mixture of hatha and flow yoga. Hatha literally means sun and moon – it’s all about the balance between heat and cool, sweaty and stretchy, fast and slow. Flow yoga (sometimes called vinyasa) really means working with the breath and a connection between the poses (or asanas in yoga speak).
I have subsequently training in pregnancy yoga at Whitespace Studio. This training means I can integrate pregnant women into my current classes, as well as teach pregnancy yoga classes. Pregnancy is a beautiful and magical time, but I know it can also bring challenges. I have found yoga so beneficial in my journey through pregnancy and motherhood that I am delighted to be able to share this with other pregnant people.
As a reformed control freak and over-thinker, through the years I’ve become increasingly interested in mindfulness and meditation as a way to help myself stop getting so stressed. I love learning more about how the mind works and yoga philosophy and am a huge believer in the mind / body / spirit connection.
I love yoga for so many reasons, it makes me feel good, it helps me feel a sense of connection and it’s so much fun. Being a yoga teacher is a huge privilege and I am absolutely thrilled to be sharing some of my love for yoga in my classes.
